Volunteer With Us

Volunteers are the driving force behind our mission, making hundreds of food rescue runs a month. Our program is powered by ChowMatch, a platform that makes volunteering flexible and convenient. As a volunteer, you use the app to set your own availability and frequency, with the option to accept or decline runs that fit your schedule. A food run can often be completed in as little as 30 minutes.

Who Can Volunteer?

We welcome individuals and groups with members aged 18 or older who have reliable transportation and auto insurance. This ensures timely and safe deliveries throughout our community.

What Volunteers Do?

Your primary role is to transport food from donors to recipient organizations.

The process is simple:

Register on the ChowMatch app, our food donation platform.

Set your preferences for availability, frequency, and preferred travel distance.

Read the food safety guidelines and complete a short handling safety quiz in the app.

When a run that matches your preferences becomes available, you’ll be notified.

Once you accept a run, you proceed to the donor, load the donation into your vehicle, and deliver it to the receiving organization.

Please bring coolers or boxes to transport donations in accordance with food safety practices. Occasionally, opportunities may also arise to help harvest or process fresh produce.

Why Volunteer?

When you generously give your time, you are helping provide food to people in your community experiencing hunger while also reducing food waste.

Our flexible model offers a unique opportunity for you to schedule runs on your own time and serve organizations you care about. Through the ChowMatch app, you can see the tangible effects of your contributions—in pounds of food rescued, meals provided, and more. It’s a highly impactful and convenient way to make a difference. You may also be able to receive tax credits for your volunteer mileage; consult your tax adviser for details.

Other ways that you can help?

We are asking for support from our communities and elected officials:

● Help build our network with introductions to farmers and organizations addressing food insecurity

● Arrange a visit to a Greene County food pantry

● Work with local public officials, churches, communities, and business leaders to help build capacity and sustainability of local food pantries

● Help us identify grants, organize fundraisers, and other funding resources
